Few days ago I noticed a photograph of mine in a blog, its one of my oldest photographs, taken over 8 years ago in Tanjore, India. It was right after the near by school bell rang and children came storming out. I was standing in a tower, looking down at a field that runs through the compound.

In Padhimalai.

On my last visit to Padhimalai, I took my instant film camera with me, and shot several portraits of the wonderful people there. At first, I thought of displaying all the photographs on the mud walls on the main street, but heavy rains made things difficult, so I gave away almost all of my portraits, and it felt good to be a part of this photo making-photo sharing ritual. The pictures posted here are a few of the remaining instant photographs. I also took some photographs with my digital camera also, which I hope to share later.

Padhimali has changed a lot since my first visit several years ago, but people are still wonderful and still there are plenty of friendly faces.

In Sendai, I met a teacher who took a break from regular work to work with children orphaned by the great Tsunami.  Rays of sunshine.

In America.

I kept thinking about the little things I enjoyed during my travels, the beauty of an oddly twisted umbrella after a rain, the little foamy bubbles on their way to a drain, a scribble, the room where I imagined, little maple leaf next to a few white lines, and lonely streets.
